We all know, today we are living in the digital age and even kids are not untouched of digital technology. Most of the children are introduced to the Internet and electronic gadgets at a very tender age. As the Internet has become an inseparable part of our daily lives, it is crucial to instil basic Internet etiquettes (now commonly called Netiquettes) in our children.
However, being a parent all of us know that teaching manners and etiquettes to today’s children isn’t that easy as teaching general etiquette. In fact, when it comes to the online world, they would teach us a thing or two.
Be respectful: While online you are standing face-to-face with others, it is quite difficult to judge others’ mood, hence it is important to keep in mind the feelings and opinions of others, even if it differs from your own.
Never use strong language: Typing in all caps, and exclamation marks can be misread and misunderstood. Before you finally post your thoughts, read everything out aloud.
Be careful with sarcasm: There is a difference between humor and sarcasm. We all love to be humorous during our conversations. But we should be careful that it should not cross the limit. A line should be drawn between humour and sarcasm.
Don’t ever post or share inappropriate material: Never share anything that is inappropriate in nature even if you are interacting with someone privately.
Be forgiving: Remember that not everyone will know these rules before posting. Hence, while interacting with others, try to be understanding of others.
Grammar and spelling: Although now-a-days, while texting people use shortcuts like ‘gr8’ for great, however, your written communication should be professional and reflect proper writing style.
