The Maths syllabus for class 10 is designed in such a way that it forms the foundation for the all-important board exams and competitive exams in the upcoming years.

CBSE Maths Syllabus For Class 10 follows the Class 10 Maths syllabus of NCERT.

Detailed Syllabus of Class 10 Maths CBSE

Chapter 1: Real Numbers

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

In earlier classes, you began your exploration of the world of real numbers and encountered irrational numbers. You will continue your journey on real numbers in this chapter. You will learn one of the very fundament concepts of numbers – the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic.

Chapter 2: Polynomials

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

You have studied polynomials in one variable and their degrees. In this chapter, you will learn second and third-degree polynomials in one variable and about zeroes of polynomials and their geometrical interpretation. This chapter of the CBSE class 10 maths syllabus also covers the relationship between zeroes and coefficients of polynomials of degree 2.

  • Zeroes of a Polynomial
  • Geometrical Meaning of Zeroes of a Polynomial
  • Relationship Between Zeroes and Coefficients of a Polynomial

Chapter 3: Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

There are many real-world problems that are solved using linear equations. The number of equations needed to solve a problem depends on the number of unknown values in it. In your earlier classes, you learned to find solutions to linear equations in one variable. This chapter is a step further where you will learn to find the solution(s) to a pair of linear equations in two variables.

Chapter 4: Quadratic Equations

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Quadratic equations are widely used in science, business, and engineering. A quadratic equation is an algebraic equation of the second degree in $x$. In this chapter of the CBSE class 10 maths syllabus, you will learn about quadratic equations and the methods of finding their solutions.

Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progressions

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

You must have observed that in nature, many things follow a certain pattern, such as the petals of a sunflower, the holes of a honeycomb, the grains on a maize cob, the spirals on a pineapple, and on a pine cone, etc. In Math also, the numbers also follow such patterns. Patterns of numbers are called sequences and their sum is a series. In this chapter, you will be introduced to one of the most important number patterns – the arithmetic progression.

Chapter 6: Triangles

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Till now, you have studied triangles, their types, properties, and equality or congruence. In this chapter, you will learn about similarity of triangles. The terms ‘congruence’ and ‘similar’ are almost the same but there is a difference between these two terms. This chapter details these concepts with respect to triangles.

  • What Are Similar Figures?
  • Basic Proportionality Theorem
  • (Prove) If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
  • (Motivate) If a line divides two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, the line is parallel to the third side.
  • (Motivate) If in two triangles, the corresponding angles are equal, their corresponding sides are proportional and the triangles are similar.
  • (Motivate) If the corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional, their corresponding angles are equal and the two triangles are similar.
  • (Motivate) If one angle of a triangle is equal to one angle of another triangle and the sides including these angles are proportional, the two triangles are similar.

Chapter 7: Coordinate Geometry

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Coordinate geometry is the study of geometric figures such as lines, and plane figures by plotting them in the coordinate axes. You have already used coordinated geometry to plot points and draw lines using coordinate points. In this chapter, you will learn to find the distance between two points and bisect them in some ratio.

Chapter 8: Introduction to Trigonometry

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

While learning about triangles, you studied right triangles. These right triangles are used to find the height of mountains, tall buildings, or the depth of ocean beds. The branch of mathematics that helps in finding all these measurements is called Trigonometry. It is based on the concept of the ratio of sides of a right triangle. These three basic ratios used in trigonometry are sine, cosine, and tangent.

  • Trigonometric Ratios
  • Trigonometric Ratios of Specific Angles($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$)
  • Proof of Trigonometric Ratios of Specific Angles($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$)
  • Relationship Between the Trigonometric Ratios
  • Trigonometric Identities (Using $\sin ^2 \theta + \cos ^2 \theta = 1$, $1 + \tan ^2 \theta = \sec ^2 \theta$, $1 + \text{cosec} ^2 \theta = \cot ^2 \theta$ only)

Chapter 9: Applications of Trigonometry

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Knowledge of the various trigonometric ratios, their properties, and identities involving trigonometric ratios helps you to use and apply them in solving real-world problems like finding heights and distances of objects. In this chapter of the CBSE class 10 maths syllabus, you will learn how to use trigonometry to solve real-world problems.

  • Angles of Elevation and Depression
  • Height and Distance

Chapter 10: Circles

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

In daily life, you come across different types of circular objects such as clock dials, rings, vehicle tyres, etc. In this chapter, you will learn about two important line segments associated with circles – tangents and secants.

Chapter 11: Areas Related to Circles

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

In the previous classes, you learned to find the area of plane figures like squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles. The objects in the real world, especially the various pattern you see like ‘rangoli’ are a combination of these plane figures. This chapter describes the procedure of finding areas of combinational figures involving circles.

  • Perimeter of a Circle
  • Area of a Circle
  • Length of Sector of a Circle
  • Area of a Sector of a Circle
  • Length of a Segment of a Circle
  • Area of a Segment of a Circle
  • Area of Combination of Plane Figures Involving Circles

Chapter 13: Surface Areas and Volumes

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

In the previous classes, you learned to find the surface area and volume of solid shapes like cubes, cuboids, cylinders, cones, and spheres. In the real world, we come across a number of solids made up of combinations of two or more solid shapes. In this chapter of the CBSE class 10 maths syllabus, you will learn how to find the surface area and volume of real-world objects like ice cream cones, glass tumblers, etc.

  • Surface Area of Combination of Figures (Cubes, Cuboids, Spheres, Hemispheres, and Right Circular Cylinders/Cones)
  • Volume of Combination of Figures (Cubes, Cuboids, Spheres, Hemispheres, and Right Circular Cylinders/Cones)
  • Conversion of One Solid From One Shape to Another

Chapter 14: Statistics

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Statistics refers to the study of collecting, analyzing, interpreting, presenting, and organizing data in a particular manner. It is a mathematical discipline where the collection and summarization of data are carried out. The data collected from the source is called raw data. The raw data is then organized for processing which is called tabulated and grouped data.

In this chapter, you will learn about the methods of finding measures of central tendencies of grouped data. The three major central tendencies that you will learn are mean, mode and median.

Chapter 15: Probability

CBSE class 10 maths syllabus

Probability in math means the numerical measurement of uncertainty. This chapter introduces you to the theoretical approach to finding the probability of an event.
